About the Short Master Leadership

This short master is a logical cluster of several master classes on leadership from the accredited MBA programme, which together cover the topic in depth. Good leaders inspire colleagues to have a clear and shared vision and empower others to act. They set a good example and take the organisation in tow. The Short Master Leadership combines knowledge with practice by using real-life case studies and assignments written on your practical situation.

Self-Management, Leadership & Coaching

This module goes into the basics of the four axes IQ-EQ-PhQ-SQ. Know yourself, emotionally, mentally and physically and know what drives you. Only when that is properly realised is it possible to look at others and influence others (whether this is coaching, managing or any other 1-on-1 contact). Are you aware of your own drives, your own motivators, your own strengths and weaknesses, your own character, your way of communicating, and the way you come across? Conversely, understanding the axes also offers understanding of others and enhancement of one’s own empathy.

It is of utmost importance to have an insight into oneself in order to recognise one’s own pitfalls. Participants learn here especially that personal development is essential from the age of six. All outside events and influences related to this also play a role. As in the systemic approach, participants are asked to identify stakeholders who play and have played a role in their development. Participants are expected to use these insights to analyse interrelationships and their influences.

These insights are further developed into (personal) leadership in the Leadership module.

Methods & Techniques of Research

Each module concludes with a research paper. Writing a paper at this level requires you to be familiar with academic writing and APA guidelines, among other things. This module provides a theoretical depth in designing, conducting and reporting research in a practical, interactive way. This is a compulsory component to complete the Leadership module.

Leadership

‘What makes a good leader?’. The ongoing search for the answer to this question has made it increasingly clear that there are many different perspectives and that there is actually no single answer. However, people do tend to look at this from an emotional angle.

In the most common literature, leadership is described as getting people along to achieve the leader’s goals. In the years following the industrial revolution, this has become increasingly prevalent in business. The rise of larger companies and the increasing influence of employees in these companies has boosted thinking about leadership. In this Masterclass, we will engage with different theories around leadership over four days. Here, we look at the levels of leadership, different currents, analyse organisational challenges and translate them into own development needs and analyse motivational factors of employees. The basis of this module is to break free from one’s own concept of values and standards. Only then can the concept of leadership be looked at objectively to discern what the essence of leadership is. Then the question can be asked: What are general characteristics of leadership? What is situationally determined? Leadership is viewed from 4 different perspectives: from the leader himself, the team, the organisation and business/society. We interpret this as a concentric model where we are subject to the changes around us at each level. In this module, you will work on your own leadership in your current or future role. Your leadership qualities and opportunities for further development are explored and processed within the four-part context of leadership: yourself, the team, the organisation and business/society. Leadership development starts with the individual.

Personal Leadership II

Whereas in the 3-day Self-Management, Leadership & Coaching course we mainly focus on the combination of vitality and personal effectiveness, in this training course we take a deep dive based on Jung’s theories. We look for your positive and negative motives in order to learn to focus on the things that help you move forward, both privately and professionally. In addition, we look back at the insights gained during the first two modules and how they can be applied within (your) team and which developments you have gone through during this programme. During this module, well-known and less well-known theories of analytical psychology by Carl Jung will be combined and we will talk about “archetype combinations”. To bring everything together, we use a combination of this theory with elements of the Development Compass. Compare it to a thermometer: this indicates the state of your inner balance.
